There is evidence from The History of the Town of Lincoln by Dana Fellows that the first newspaper published in Lincoln was "The Mattanawcook Observer," first printed in 1847 by J.R. Hopkins. The cost for a one-year subscription was 75 cents. This paper was short lived, but evidence suggests it was the first paper ever written in Lincoln.
